Mesa Public Schools is now recognizing an elementary and secondary spotlight school at the second board meeting of each month. Each school will highlight a student, certified staff member and classified staff member. Lehi Elementary was recognized as the elementary spotlight school for October 2024. Below are comments from principal Teja Alleyne on each of the honorees.
Nevaeh Rizo, Outstanding Student: Nevaeh is a leader at heart. She is an active member of Student Government and has taken on a starring role in many of Lehi’s promotional commercials, bravely representing our school with pride. Her hard work and great effort have accelerated her academic growth, and she is now reaching proficiency in her studies, a testament to her determination and resilience.
Beyond academics, Nevaeh's caring spirit shines through in her involvement within the school community. She is known for her compassion and willingness to help others, embodying what it means to be a model student. With a family like hers behind her, raising her to be resilient and thrive in all she does, Nevaeh is on an incredible path to success, inspiring her peers and contributing positively to the Lehi school culture. We are honored to have Nevaeh and her wonderful family as part of our Lehi Lynx tribe!
Maureen Roxborough, Hailey Edwards and Perla Meza-Arriaga, Outstanding Educators: These educators have made a powerful commitment to one another and to our school by putting the teaming model into action. Their dedication to deploying Lehi Learning Expectations with a strong growth mindset has been instrumental in driving significant improvements in both student achievement and well-being.
Their unwavering commitment to fostering student growth is evident in the incredible gains their students are making in English language development, with many even reaching proficiency. Their efforts have also led to substantial growth in both ELA and math achievement, furthering our mission to fulfill the MPS promise.
Moreover, the strong teamwork, trust, and shared sense of purpose this 3rd-grade team embodies have not only benefited their students but also contributed to their own job satisfaction. They have created a positive, supportive environment where collaboration thrives, and their efforts have been pivotal in the success of our school.
Lidia Severeson, Outstanding Classified Staff Member: Lidia started her journey with us as an incredible Facility Assistant, known for her dedication and quiet strength. While she may have begun as someone meek and humble, her drive and openness to new possibilities have allowed her to grow in remarkable ways. Lidia didn’t just settle for being great at what she did; she was constantly improving herself, always seeking opportunities to learn and expand her horizons.
Today, we are proud to recognize her as our Family Support Specialist—a role in which she has flourished. Lidia has developed a strong presence within our community, overcoming her initial hesitations with public speaking and now confidently supporting families with their needs, challenges, and celebrations. Whether it’s guiding families through difficult situations or celebrating their successes, Lidia has become an essential part of what makes our Lehi school community stronger and more connected.
Lidia is living proof that personal growth can have a profound impact on an entire community, and we are immensely grateful for all that she does to support our families. We love Lidia Severson, and we are so proud to celebrate her today!
